”Emergence to me is a meeting place of people from all walks of life having a common thread of alcohol or drugs and the damage it has done to us mentally, physically, and spiritually. It is a group of strangers sharing their daily struggles to learn that we are in this journey of life together and not so different after all. We have all taken detours on this road map of life, and now we are learning to be just ’us’ and to love and accept ourselves and others. Look within and see we’re just human beings with many weaknesses but with an attitude of ’I can do it if I think I can.’ ” - ATP, Women’s Threshold group
”My counselor is the most amazing woman I have ever met. I’ve been in Emergence Counseling Center for a little over two months. I fought it for a while, but after trying to kill myself for the second time in two months and going to the Johnson Unit ... I hope I hit my bottom. I’m learning to trust for the first time in my life. Most of the women in my group are out of this world. I’m willing to believe. I’m on day 15 of being clean and sober. As of today, I have the desire to remain sober. My counselor and group helped me through a very important day where I did not feel like making it through the day. They have all helped me stay clean, sober, and alive. Our group went on a camping trip, and it was the most amazing positive thing in my life. I believe it may have changed my life. It has given me hope and a higher power.” -  KW, Women’s Threshold group
”My story starts June 2006. I was a mother who hadn’t worked for years. I was in a violent relationship and using drugs and alcohol to cover the pain. In July of 2006, I started the Bridge Program at Emergence. I learned a lot about myself, what I wanted, who I was, and what I wanted to be. I started going to ’meetings’, got a sponsor, and my life began to change. I got out of my violent relationship. Then I went to vocational rehabilitation, became a success story and got hire don at Goodwill. I got my first place, all my own for me and my children. I have since graduated my program. I am still working and much happier than I have ever been. I have good days and bad days but a clean & sober life which makes me happy even on bad days. I am now a good role model for my children and I respect myself. I want to thank the Emergence Program and my counselor ”J” for a chance of a lifetime and the pursuit of my own happiness.” - B.B., Bridge Program
